: Water In The Sun


Of course, this water is not in liquid form (as you would hopefully expect)! The water can be found as vapor in the dark sunspots on the sun's surface. The vapor absorbs a great deal of the sun's energy in these areas, creating a kind of solar "greenhouse effect." Hot water molecules are also major absorbers of infrared radiation in the atmospheres of cooler stars such as red giants.
