The insect with the most painful sting in the world is the bullet ant which is said to have a sting that feels like being shot.

The Paraponera has also been known as the 24 ant or bullet ant, for having a sting that hurts for 24 hours. The painful sting also can cause paralysis.

These ants live in the rainforests in Central and South America. They can reach sizes of 30 mm long (about 1.18 inches) and they resemble large, wingless wasps.

 The Satare-Wawe people of Brazil intentionally let these ants sting them as part of an initiation ritual.
